Subnautica 2 Strong Acid — How to Get It (Two Methods)

Strong Acid is a mid-game material made in the Processor. Two recipes: Necrolei Cysts (faster, 30s) or Sulfur + Gold (60s). Used for Advanced Batteries, Power Cells, Fiber Mesh, and more.

What Is Strong Acid?

Strong Acid is a processed mid-game material in Subnautica 2 used for crafting advanced power systems and tool upgrades. You cannot find it in the environment — it must be made in the Processor from raw materials. It is required for the Advanced Battery and Power Cell, which gate most late-game progression.

How to Make Strong Acid

There are two Processor recipes for Strong Acid:

MethodIngredientsTimeRecommendation
Method 1 — Necrolei Cysts2x Necrolei Cyst30 secPreferred
Method 2 — Sulfur + Gold1x Sulfur + 1x Gold60 secSlower, uses rare Gold
💡 Use Method 1: Necrolei Cysts are faster (30s vs 60s) and don't consume Gold — a valuable material needed for other recipes. Only use Sulfur + Gold if you have no Necrolei Cysts and urgently need Strong Acid.

Where to Find Necrolei Cysts

Necrolei Cysts are harvested from Necrolei organisms — creatures found in mid-game biomes. Look for them in rocky reef areas. The cysts appear as visible growths on the creature's body and can be collected by interacting with them directly (no special tool needed).

⚠️ Heat Zones: If the Necrolei in your area spawn primarily in the hot eastern zones, you will need the Heat Tolerance DNA Adaptation (from an Angel Comb) before you can safely farm them.

Where to Find Sulfur (Method 2)

Sulfur is found in the high-temperature eastern zones. Without the Heat Tolerance adaptation, you will die from the heat before you can collect it. Unlock Heat Tolerance via an Angel Comb first. Sulfur is also used in the Repair Tool recipe, making it a doubly important material.

Farming Strategy

  • Farm Necrolei Cysts every time you pass through their spawn area
  • Queue multiple batches in the Processor simultaneously (capacity: 15 ingredients = 7 Strong Acid in one queue)
  • Build a secondary base near Necrolei spawn zones to reduce travel time
  • Reserve Gold for other advanced recipes — use the Cyst method whenever possible

FAQ

Can I make Strong Acid without the Processor?

No. Both recipes for Strong Acid require the Processor. Build the Processor first (with the Habitat Builder) before attempting to craft it.

Which method is better — Necrolei Cysts or Sulfur + Gold?

Necrolei Cysts are better: faster processing (30s vs 60s) and don't cost Gold. Use Sulfur + Gold only as a fallback when you have no cysts available.

Is Strong Acid needed for the Repair Tool?

No. The Repair Tool uses Sulfur directly (not Strong Acid). These are different recipes. See our Repair Tool guide for details.
