⚠️ Common Mistake: The Repair Tool cannot be built at the damaged Lifepod fabricator. You need a working base Fabricator first — build it with the Habitat Builder.

What Is the Repair Tool?

The Repair Tool is an essential mid-game item in Subnautica 2 used to repair your Tadpole submarine and damaged base structures. It requires a Basic Battery to operate, which is depleted during use. You must collect 3 fragments to unlock its blueprint before you can craft it.

Repair Tool Fragment Locations

There are 3 fragments scattered around the map. You need all 3 to unlock the blueprint. Here is where to find each one:

Fragment 1 — Chap's Base (~217m South)

The closest and most accessible fragment. Swim approximately 217m south of your Lifepod to reach Chap's abandoned base. The fragment is found inside a cave room, sitting on top of a table. You'll also visit this location naturally during the main story when NOA directs you to Chap's signal.

💡 Tip: Chap's Base is a story location, so you don't need to hunt for it — the game guides you here early on.

Fragment 2 — Cicada Wreck / Lander Garage (~200–270m Southeast)

Head approximately 200–270m southeast of the Lifepod to find the large damaged Cicada structure (also called the Lander Garage). Enter from underneath or the left side. The fragment is on the ground or near benches inside. This structure is partially open and at a manageable depth.

Fragment 3 — Altera Starship Wreck / Canteen (~350m Northeast, 50m+ depth)

The most challenging fragment. Swim approximately 347–350m northeast and descend to 50m+ depth to reach the Altera Starship Wreck. The fragment is in the Canteen area. Bring extra oxygen (a Standard Air Tank is strongly recommended) and a flashlight — visibility is low at this depth. As a bonus, breaking doors inside this wreck can unlock the Rebreather blueprint.

Repair Tool Crafting Recipe

Once you have all 3 fragments, craft the Repair Tool at a working base Fabricator:

IngredientQuantityHow to Get
Titanium Ingot× 13x Titanium → Processor
Wiring Kit× 1Fabricator recipe
Basic Battery× 1Fabricator recipe
Sulfur× 1Eastern heat zones (requires Heat Adaptation)
⚠️ Sulfur Warning: Sulfur is found exclusively in the high-temperature eastern zones. Attempting to swim there without Heat Tolerance DNA Adaptation will kill you. Unlock the adaptation first via an Angel Comb.

What Does the Repair Tool Do?

  • Repairs the Tadpole submarine when its hull is damaged
  • Repairs damaged base structures and hull breaches
  • Requires a Basic Battery to operate — the battery drains during use
  • Carry spare batteries on long dives so you don't get stranded

FAQ

How many fragments do you need for the Repair Tool?

You need 3 Repair Tool fragments to unlock the blueprint.

Why can't I craft the Repair Tool at my Lifepod?

The Lifepod's fabricator is damaged and cannot craft advanced tools. Build a base with the Habitat Builder and place a working Fabricator inside it first.

Do I need to find the fragments in order?

No. You can collect the 3 fragments in any order. The blueprint unlocks automatically after scanning the third one.

What happens if I use the Repair Tool without a battery?

The Repair Tool requires a Basic Battery to function. Without one (or with a depleted battery), it will not operate. Always carry spare batteries.

Can the Repair Tool fix creatures?

No. The Repair Tool only works on vehicles and base structures, not creatures or the player.
